MISSION TO METRICS

The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop and scale technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. The Catch Management team ensures responsible waste management for plastic and waste extracted from rivers.

As Waste Manager Junior, you will bring your knowledge, know-how, and network to support and improve the waste management processes within our Rivers projects. This role will allow you to combine professional excellence with a meaningful goal - supporting our cleantech development as we work towards clean oceans.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the waste management representative for a portfolio of river projects
  • Research waste handling in countries where our river projects are executed, through desk research, partnerships, and site visits
  • Coordinate with other team members to propose waste management solutions for river projects according to best local practices, in consultation with the Sr. Waste Manager
  • Ensure accurate and comprehensive reporting for river projects that fall under the responsibility of the waste management representative, with guidance from the Sr. Waste Manager
  • Assist the operational rollout of waste management solutions, ensuring the proposed waste management approach is available and appropriate for the waste from our river operations
  • Contribute to the expansion of our knowledge, know-how, and network for waste management in river projects, based on the lessons learned in current and past projects

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 years of working experience in a role related to waste management, -handling, -research, -policy, or similar
  • Relevant experience in project management
  • Bachelor or Masters degree in a relevant field (environmental sciences, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or civil engineering.)
  • Experience working in emerging markets (Asia, Central America, Africa)

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • You are a self-starter with an analytical approach to problem-solving
  • You have excellent communication and social skills, with a strong cultural awareness and the ability to communicate on all levels
  • You are curious and willing to regularly travel abroad for site visits
  • You have a strong command of the English language, verbal and written
  • You are not afraid of a smelly work environment and dirty boots
  • You are intrinsically motivated to work on our ambitious and meaningful goal
